WashU student-athletes

In competition, the classroom, and the community, Washington University student-athletes strive to have an impact wherever they go. When you make a gift to the W Club—the Annual Fund for Athletics—you help develop the leaders of tomorrow.

Members of the W Club Executive Committee have established a generous challenge to encourage alumni, parents, and friends to provide essential financial support for WashU Athletics and our student-athletes.

How the challenge works

The William Greenleaf Eliot Society recognizes donors who make annual gifts of $1,000 or more to Washington University. The challenge will match all new and increased Eliot Society memberships designated to the W Club, up to a total of $330,000. New Eliot Society memberships will be matched 1:1, and increased memberships will be matched 2:1.

Gifts to this fund provide annual credit toward membership in one of the university’s giving clubs. Your recognition level is based on your gift and will not include the challenge matching dollars.

How the gifts are used

Like all Division III institutions, WashU relies on private funding to provide a transformative student-athlete experience. Now more than ever, your support makes the longstanding tradition of athletics excellence possible. Gifts to the W Club provide funding for:

  • increased travel costs related to COVID-19,
  • expenses incurred to comply with NCAA COVID-19 guidelines,
  • sports medicine,
  • injury prevention and performance enhancement,
  • initiatives that promote student-athlete development, and
  • technology and online streaming of competitions.

Sport-specific gifts to the W Club support the ongoing priorities set forth by each program’s head coach and the athletics director.

“Our alumni, parents, and friends are an instrumental part of our athletics family. Thanks to you, we are able to have a complete athletics experience. You are the backbone of our success! All we learn and achieve would not be possible without your support.”

Bo Anderson, Baseball, Class of 2022

“I invest in WashU Athletics because strong support enables the department to provide a life-changing experience to every Bear. I have seen firsthand how our annual support strengthens the athletics program and develops our future leaders. We can all do our part to ensure our student-athletes have opportunities to develop indispensable skills that benefit them at WashU and beyond.”
